This game was an RTS style game that I was developing solo throughout two semesters in my final year

Game Inspiration

The game's mechanics was inspired by multiple different games such as Halo Wars, Sid Meier's Civilization and Rimworld.

The Halo and Civ games inspired the base mechanics such as the units and base being the main building hub.

The Rimworld inspiration falls down to how that game deals with resources and research.

There was also inspiration that I had gotten while planning when playing Spore's civilization stage, as I enjoyed slowly taking control of all the spices and taking control of the planet.

Combat Design

For developing the combat for the game, I wanted to make sure that for the enemy player the units were fully AI, but for the player controlled units, I wanted to make a mix of user based input and AI based input, where the unit could be controlled to go places and attack certain entities within the level, but if not given any specific orders, could still defend itself and act accordingly.

AI Implementation

Before developing the enemy player's AI, I came up with a base plan for what I wanted the AI to be able to do. The AI has ended up quite a bit more complex, but the plan helped me to develop the AI through the early stages.

Throughout the progress of the game, more was added into the AI to make sure that it could respond aggressively, defensively or a mix of both depending upon the situation of the game.

The individual units owned by this AI player have their own separate AI, but it will be told where to go by the enemy player AI.
